Moving to Spain can be a traumatic experience.

This week Im going to write about some of the experiences I have seen over the years working  at Mad About Furniture with our clients who have moved to and from Spain.

Firstly, to start with the most important member of the family – the dog!

Many people have adopted Spanish pets during their stay in Spain and suddenly, sometimes unexpectedly have to return to the UK.

While Pets are allowed to travel across the EU they have to have papers so its important, even if you are not planning a move to make sure your Pet papers are in order because the formalities take at least 6 months.

We have heard horror stories of Pets being kenneled or even abandoned as unexpected emigration back to the UK meant travelling without the family pets.

So, visit your vet and ensure the Pet is up to date on the required vaccinations and chipped and had all the tests sent away in order for a passport to be issued!

While we are on the subject of Pets, Vets in Spain can be quite expensive and insurance is less available here in Spain.  It’s a really good idea to get the pets insured and we recommend Ibex Insurance for peace of mind.
