General Election

With a General Election looming in the UK the Spanish Tourist Authority are predicting a drop in the number of tourists travelling to Spain which will affect all business here.   On the plus side it is such a short time before election day and the UK suffered a bad weather Easter many people are considering a foreign holiday this year after their experience of being ‘stay at home tourists’ last year which proved expensive.

It will be an interesting 2010 and Mad About Furniture are putting more emphasis on helping people while they are still in the UK with our brand new website which is being updated daily.

We are looking at giving clients a clearer more user friendly way of choosing from the wide range of Furniture by highlighting our best packages and most popular lines.

Our old website had an array of products producing many solutions for every category.  We still have all these options available and choice is still very much important to us and to our clients but by simplifying what we do we can get the basics of the clients needs and then, delve into the detail on a one to one basis to find that perfect sofa!

Moving to Spain

Moving to Spain can be a traumatic experience.

This week Im going to write about some of the experiences I have seen over the years working  at Mad About Furniture with our clients who have moved to and from Spain.

Firstly, to start with the most important member of the family – the dog!

Many people have adopted Spanish pets during their stay in Spain and suddenly, sometimes unexpectedly have to return to the UK.

While Pets are allowed to travel across the EU they have to have papers so its important, even if you are not planning a move to make sure your Pet papers are in order because the formalities take at least 6 months.

We have heard horror stories of Pets being kenneled or even abandoned as unexpected emigration back to the UK meant travelling without the family pets.

So, visit your vet and ensure the Pet is up to date on the required vaccinations and chipped and had all the tests sent away in order for a passport to be issued!

While we are on the subject of Pets, Vets in Spain can be quite expensive and insurance is less available here in Spain.  It’s a really good idea to get the pets insured and we recommend Ibex Insurance for peace of mind.

Some tips to help you maximise the potential of your home in Spain and save you from some costly mistakes

1. Shop Locally – It is a false economy to think that you will save money if you buy in the U.K. and ship everything over. The transport will be expensive and items could get damaged in transit. Upon delivery someone has to accept the delivery and set everything out, it’s a bigger job than you may think.  Things that you think look great in the U.K. suddenly look dreadful in a sunny environment. Also consider excess baggage fees from airlines
